Inn At Bay Harbor

22 09 2013

This past week Andy and I took a trip to Michigan for our friends’ wedding. The ceremony took place out side on Little Traverse Bay. Green lawn, white chairs and 10 steps back and the bride and groom would have been in the lake! The weather was stunning, 65*F and sunny with giant puffy white clouds making for magical photos.

The wedding was at The Inn At Bay Harbor. The Inn is a “renaissance golf club” which I gather essentially means expensive and fancy. Four of us shared a hotel room, it was over $200/night (total) even with the wedding party group rates. The room had two queens, a fridge, a huge bathroom, two closets and a balcony. It was quite lovely. The Inn has some of the BEST bloody marys ever. They have thick smoked bacon in them!

The whole Petoskey/Bay Harbor area is beautiful. We spent the night before the wedding in the area. We started with The Petoskey Brewery. We had wonderful beer, I loved the Badunka Dunkle and Andy really liked the Dark Knight Black IPA. We also had delicious panini sandwiches. Last year when we were in Petoskey (also for a wedding) we managed to be at the Petoskey Brewery for their grand opening. It was lovely to see them still doing well, though thankfully not AS packed as opening night, and officially having added food to their menu! After the brewery we headed to Knot Just Another Bar to meet up with the wedding party. They told us 9pm. We got there around 9:30pm to find no one there. We started the 69 beer challenge with out them. Knot Just Another Bar will permanently paint your name or team name on the ceiling if you successfully finish all 69 beers on their list. The list includes some wonderful local breweries such at Motor City Brewing, Atwater Brewing, Founders etc. as well as things as disgusting at a 40oz Mickey’s in a paper bag. Being as we beat everyone to the bar, we had first dibs on the best beers and were on to round two by the time they finally all showed up! When the groom finally showed up, we bought him the Mickey’s. The ceiling of Knot Just Another Bar officially has “The Milford Crew: Team Chef Simba” on it. We killed the list in one night, which really wasn’t so hard since we probably had 30+ people there!

BYW_4092As I said before the ceremony was out on the lawn. The reception however, was held partially indoors, partially in a tent and partially outdoors. Dinner was indoors, as was the cake cutting. Most everything else was in the tent just outside the doors of the dinner hall. They had a bar out in the tent, heaters, and a DJ. Outdoors there was a bonfire and a few hammocks. It was such a beautiful wedding. We had so much fun.
