July 4th

5 07 2013

Our yearly 4th of July festivities went wonderfully this year. The weather was beautiful! Not quite warm enough to swim, but plenty warm to sit outside all day! After last year being 103*Fahrenheit and everyone getting heat illness the cooler weather was more than welcome. Lake Michigan was still icy cold, but felt good on my toes and calves. This year’s turn out was also much better, probably partially thanks to the weather. The socially awkward factor was no longer there and everyone seemed to get along! People came and went all day, but I think we had nearly 25-30 people there at one point! It was a lovely day of relaxing, grilling, playing Boccie ball, playing Frisbee, playing hacky sack, drinking and general hanging out at the lake!

Andy made a trailer for his bike, primarily for the 4th of July. It was custom sized to fit his Kaboom boombox, a full sized cooler, two milk-crates and assorted extras. The main trailer is made of 2x4s. He used some free bike wheels we had acquired and made dropouts out of unistrut. A hinge and a scrap 2×4 made for a kickstand, so the bike trailer is self supporting when not hooked up to the bike. It’s a pretty impressive trailer. It not only held everything we wanted, it hauled it all smoothly.

I’m proud of my handy boyfriend. He did good.
